Hello! I am planning to serve with SEND in Russia for part of the summer of 2020. God put Russia on my heart over 10 years ago as I was preparing to start college. I loved languages, so in college I studied both linguistics and Russian language. However, my life took another direction after graduation and I wasn't sure what God was going to do with my interest in Russian. After an 8-month missions internship in Bosnia, 2 years in graduate school, and a summer short-term trip in China, I moved to Iowa City for a teaching job – where the church I joined “just happened" to commit themselves to supporting SEND’s ministry among two unreached people groups in Russia. I also went through the "Perspectives" course (a 15-week course on God’s global plan), where several of the guest speakers had experience in Russia. Through those speakers, and through my church, I learned that there are many minority groups in Russia who still need access to the gospel. I saw God's hand bringing Russia back into my view, and I began praying for these unreached communities. Now, I have the opportunity to spend a short time with the SEND team that my church supports in Russia. I will spend part of the summer becoming acquainted with the team, their city, and their church plant. I also hope to use my experience as a professional ESL teacher to assist with an English outreach and help the team plan ways to use English teaching as a ministry tool in their own community.
