Naomi Camp

My name is Naomi Camp. Naomi, a character in the Bible, was a stranger and alone in the country of Moab. Her name means ”joy, sweet, cute and happy.” My Chinese name is Camp, which also means “sweet.” For this reason, I have chosen Naomi Camp as my English name.

I trusted in Jesus as my Savior and Lord in Hong Kong in 1983. Eleven years later, God called me to be a missionary through the Rev. James Hudson Taylor. Before becoming a missionary, I went to Taiwan to study at the National Chung Hsing University. While I was waiting for the Lord's timing to be a missionary, I continued my study at China Lutheran Seminary and received my Master of Divinity degree in 2004.

I had been waiting for a long time before my desire to be a missionary came true. The waiting period was not easy, but I thank God for giving me a waiting heart. God used that period to develop in me some important virtues — obedience, humility, patience, joyful endurance and persistence.  When I finally got accepted as a career missionary, I felt like God was saying to me, “I need you.” I was like a little donkey, tied to a tree waiting in silence.

Thank you Lord for choosing me to be part of your Kingdom's work. I became a missionary with SEND International in January 2014. My desire is to work with SEND Taiwan's Vision 119 reaching the lost along the western coast of Taiwan where less than 1% have heard the Gospel. It is not easy for me to do cross-cultural ministry; I trust that God's grace, wisdom, love, and strength will enable me to do so. I am assigned to a team that focuses on planting churches. This is a big challenge and I need you to pray for me so that I may be an effective instrument for the Lord Jesus.
