Alaska/Yukon | Rural Community Church Starter

Opportunity Overview:

SEND North is looking for people who have a passion to see new churches planted in remote villages and communities in Alaska and northern Canada (Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut). Are you eager to see the indigenous people of North America come to know Jesus and walk with Him? Do you enjoy living off the land in remote places? Are you eager to minister out of your home and lead small group Bible studies with adults and youth? Do you consider yourself a community minded person who is eager to build relationships with your neighbors and attend community events? Countries:  Alaska / Northern Canada

Terms:  Long-Term (3+ years), Mid-Term (1 - 3 years)

 

 


Responsibilities:

  • Get involved as an active and caring member of the community
  • Build relationships with local people for the purpose of sharing the Gospel and making disciples
  • Meet individually with people to help them encounter and walk with Jesus
  • Organize and lead Bible studies and home church fellowships
  • Train local Christian leaders
  • Find practical ways to serve the community
  • Assist camping ministries, youth work, and other ministries, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bible training and proven experience in ministry required
  • A proven and faithful walk with Jesus since you might be one of the only believers in your community
  • The ability to share the gospel, disciple new believers, and develop leaders
  • Capable of leading Bible studies and small groups
  • Northern living skills are beneficial but not required (ex: hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, etc.)
  • An eagerness to learn from the local people and live with an appreciation for their culture
  • A desire to see Church established where it is not present
  • Boldness accompanied with cultural sensitivity
  • A willingness to practice church differently so that people experience deep transformation and are enabled to become disciple-makers themselves
  • The willingness to lead the local people in worship in a style that they value
  • A deep awareness of the importance of staying connected to other believers and SEND teammates throughout the region
